New toughness choices


High temperatures and pressures, intense and prolonged mechanical stresses, reduced spaces in the compartment under the bonnet of the cars constitute a demanding test bench for the components in use that are placed there. In competition with the large production volumes and the high quality standards required, the stressful working conditions require dedicated materials an excellent performance profile, which can be spent in many equally heavy-duty sectors. Even the metal replacement strategies and the engineering trend that thins the thickness into components with complex geometries fuel the demand for ultra-tough plastics.

The most widespread is polyamide 66, flanked by a growing variety of polymeric bases with excellent performance in all items.


The problems of the industries that are dedicated to the production of technical components set the agenda for a specialist in high-performance technopolymers such as DAIRE Chemicals, which presents the Italian market with new grades developed by the major brands for high demanding applications. The PA66 reinforced with Leona 14G glass fibers by Asahi Kasei is characterized by prolonged resistance to fatigue and thermal aging: the formulations of this range are widely used in automotive applications such as covers for cylinder heads, torsion bars, engine supports, housings for compass sensors. For the molding of components with walls of reduced thickness, a high fluidity grade has been developed that allows the filling of complex figures without sacrificing the resistance to thermal aging. The Leona 14G range by Asahi Kasei is currently available in versions with glass fiber charge present from 15 to 50%, black in color, heat stabilized and in contact with glycols. Workability in competitive cycle times is the primary target even in a another new product of the brand: the suffix HC of the Tenac C-HC copolymer acetal resin, nomen omen, identifies the marked crystallinity (high crystallinity) of a formulation that is positioned between the copolymer and homopolymer acetal plastic materials, designed to provide filling speed higher than the standard keeping the mechanical properties unchanged. On this side the material behaves very well, like the homopolymer acetal resins, which equates for resistance to fatigue, impact, aging, chemical agents and for E / kg savings. Compared with the copolymer acetal resins, the products of the Tenac C-HC series take advantage of rapid cycle times, particularly thin thicknesses and reduced weight, superior thermal and mechanical resistance.


Quality and variety of the offer are essential for an attentive distributor who is constantly in tune with the needs of processors and manufacturers like Daire Chemicals.
In parallel with the improvement of the already excellent technical performance of nylon 66, alternative proposals have multiplied, stimulated by the availability not always adequate to the demand and by the increase in prices that for some time have questioned the choice of polyamides.

Polymer developers have developed effective polypropylene based formulations with fiberglass reinforcements. The proposed grades included in Daire's portfolio are materials resistant to aggressive chemicals, impacts, continuous temperatures up to 120 ° C and peaks at 150 ° C. Thanks to the low propensity to absorb shocks and humidity, they maintain dimensional stability over time. They are competitive with the PA 66 in terms of weight and price, lower than Daire, even 30%; other saving factors can be identified in the possibility of eliminating the drying phase before molding and in workability at lower temperatures compared to the loaded polyamides. Completing the excellent technical data sheet of these PP formulations reinforced with fiberglass is the low noise and vibration generation.


The Chang Chan Plastics Group (CCP), founded in 1949, is in second place among Taiwan's petrochemical companies in terms of production volumes and is reputed to be one of the largest chemical suppliers worldwide, the first in the world for PBT production. The high profile of the polymers of this brand convinced Daire to conquer its distribution on the Italian market. CCP has developed a very wide range of PBT formulations. The material is widespread for heavy-duty use with excellent mechanical, thermal and electrical characteristics, chemical resistance, dimensional stability and low water absorption; it too is therefore a valid competitor of the PA 66. The 1000 series is articulated in non-loaded degrees, the 2000 series in non-loaded degrees with self-extinguishing properties. The 3000, 4000 and 5000 series identify PBT-based compounds loaded with glass fiber; in particular, the 4000 series has self-extinguishing properties in the V-0 @ 0.8 mm class and the 5000 series, equally dedicated to applications requiring fire protection, is self-extinguishing and halogen-free. The 6000 and 7000 series are developed to provide prints in which deformation phenomena are reduced to a minimum.




The DAIRE CHEMICALS has started the distribution on the Italian territory of the # PA_66_LEONA ™ _14G series of the integrated manufacturer ASAHI KASEI.
PA66 reinforced with glass fibers has high fatigue resistance
and thermal aging.

The LEONA ™ 14G series is widely used in automotive applications such as cylinder head covers, torsion bars, engine mounts, compass housing housings and enjoys a high reputation among customers.

Faced with advanced market needs, ASAHI KASEI has developed a high fluidity grade to make it possible to fill thin walled figures, as an example, in engine head cover applications, without sacrificing resistance to thermal aging.

At the moment there are only glass loaded versions from 15% up to 50%, colored in black version, and with heat and glycol stabilized grades, for automotive under hood applications.

TENAC™- C HC High performance acetal resin.

DAIRE CHEMICALS sells on the Italian territory, the TENAC ™ C-HC high performance acetal copolymer of the Japanese chemical company ASAHI KASEI.
TENAC ™ C-HC is an acetal copolymer with excellent mechanical performance and is positioned between the copolymer and homopolymer acetal.

One of the main features is its high crystallinity (high crystallinity), which allows to reduce the cycle times, with higher filling speeds, keeping the mechanical properties unchanged.

The TENAC ™ C-HC series, compared to the copolymer acetal has the following advantages:

LEONA ™ 90G is a partially aromatic polyamide 6.6 that thanks to its physical and mechanical characteristics
unique is particularly suitable where there is a need for metal replacement.
There are various glass loaded grades up to a percentage of 60%, mixed glass / mineral and grades
also approved grades for contact with drinking water to meet the increasingly current needs of
structural products in the food world.
Furthermore, the LEONA ™ 90G has the enormous advantage of requiring 90 ° C as mold temperature, what
which makes it much more easily transformable than other aromatic polyamides maintaining
however, all its characteristics unaltered with excellent surface quality remain unchanged.
Another outstanding feature of the LEONA ™ 90G is that it has a linear thermal elongation
very similar to metal, a property that makes it extremely efficient in applications where,
coupled with metal, there are strong temperature changes.
Compared to polyarylamide and other aromatic polyamides, the LEONA ™ 90G has undoubted advantages
for molding, reducing costs and in general greater competitiveness, factors that are today decisive
in the choice of products in an increasingly demanding and competitive market.




Sumika Polymers Compounds, which is part of the integrated PP producer Sumitomo Chemical, has developed PP grades V0 at 0.8 mm based on the THERMOFIL HP series, using a halogen free and glass fiber self-extinguishing package from 15 to 40 %.

These products can be offered in place of PA and PBT Fibra glass V0.

Compared to these we will therefore have:

- Lower density

- Lower cost

- Car. mechanical equal to or even higher than PA after conditioning

- Excellent CTI and glow wire values

- Lower HDT

Compared to the halogen free PP V0 of the competition, the Sumikas being HP based offer:

- Lower density

- Better mechanical features

High performance technopolymers to effectively support the serious challenges faced by the medical sector.


Faced with a pandemic, that is, an epidemic that affects everyone, everyone must do their part. Many companies have converted their production into medical items or have increased the production capacity of various products that are used to deal with the current emergency health situation. The diversified range of materials distributed by Daire Chemicals, through the suppliers Arkema, RTP, Samyang and Trinseo, is able to support the manufacturers of different devices, with specific solutions that meet the different application needs.


Arkema products include Kynar PVDF, Rilsan Clear transparent polyamide and Pebax polyamide and polyether block (TPA) thermoplastic elastomer. PVDF Kynar is usually used in water treatment components such as pumps, membranes, filters, fittings, given its purity and high chemical resistance. In addition, it has an effective resistance to various sterilization systems, such as autoclaves, chemical treatments or radiation. Arkema has also developed special grades of Kynar for the production, through Meltblown and Electro-spinning, of the yarn / fabric used in the masks. The Kynar guarantees a greater germ barrier effect, longer life and allows you to breathe better than the classic non-woven fabrics in PP, TPU or PP / TPU. Many companies are converting their production of eyeglasses or sunglasses, into safety glasses, within the sphere of individual protective devices called PPE. For these productions Daire can supply Rilsan Clear G850R transparent biopolymer, from renewable sources, which is already used in the eyewear sector, in particular for frames, and which, compared to traditional materials such as PMMA and PC used for PPE, it guarantees greater transparency, lightness, impact resistance (especially at low temperatures), chemical resistance to detergents, resilience especially in those parts near the bar subject to opening / closing of the glasses. To ensure better comfort for the wearer, Pebax can be used, which with hardnesses starting from 25 shore D gives a soft-touch effect, useful, for example, in the temples of the glasses.


The American company RTP Company has a Healthcare division, 100% dedicated to the sector, and offers solutions suitable for different areas. The polyester based polymer alloy RTP 2000 HC has a high chemical resistance to disinfectant agents used for medical equipment in hospitals and for all those laboratory instruments that are used in these areas. Usually, PC / ABS, PC / PBT, ABS, PC, PC / ASA based materials are used to produce these components and in the long run the chemical aggression of disinfectants mechanically weakens these products, making them unusable. In this case, the RTP 2000HC series comes to the rescue, which extends the life cycle of the equipment, maintaining the same dimensional stability as the polymers normally used. Furthermore, it can be easily colored and also available with self-extinguishing grades UL 94 V-0 / 5VA. To protect medical instruments and laboratory equipment from electrostatic charges and electromagnetic interference that could compromise the results of the analyzes and their correct functioning, RTP produces permanent and conductive antistatic polymers, capable of fully overcoming this problem. For the creation of surgical instruments and equipment, which must withstand countless sterilization cycles according to the various techniques (gamma rays, autoclave, etc.) without difficulty, RTP offers structural compounds, reinforced with fiberglass, glass balls, long fiberglass. , on different bases: PPSU, PPS, PEI PEEK. Also from RTP are masters that make radio-opaque surgical room instruments, therefore visible during surgical interventions, in particular to meet the needs of minimally invasive surgery and of video-assisted and guided surgery. These masters are compatible with polymers such as PPSU, PEEK and autoclavable.


As for the manufacture of the glasses used in the field of personal protective equipment, Samyang produces Trirex polycarbonate, which stands out for its excellent optical quality. If you want to equip your protective glasses with softer and more comfortable nose pads and temples to wear, the thermoplastic rubbers based on TPE - Megol and TPU Apilon 52, both from Trinseo, come in handy. In addition to providing an effective soft-touch effect, these materials have a firm adhesion to polycarbonate, therefore they are ideally suited to coating the points of contact with the nose or the parts of the rods resting on the ears. Daire introduces Leona to Italy

The Italian distributor will follow the sales of the partially aromatic PA 66 of Asahi Kasei.

Daire Chemicals has obtained from Asahi Kasei the distribution in Italy of the partially aromatic polyamide 66 Leona 90G, which is added to the other technopolymers of the Japanese group already marketed in our country, in particular Tenac acetal and PPE Xiron.

The Leona series, characterized by competitive costs compared to other aromatic polyamides, is indicated where the metal needs to be replaced, or combined with it, also thanks to a very similar thermal elongation. Grades with different fiberglass content, up to a maximum of 60%, mixed glass / mineral grades and special types approved for contact with drinking water are available.

The Italian distributor also reports another characteristic of the material, the mold temperature of only 90 ° C, which improves its workability, reduces energy costs, allowing water rather than oil cooling, without compromising the mechanical properties or the aesthetic quality of the final product.

Compound hi-tech for individual protection devices

In recent months the demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) has grown exponentially, in particular for masks, visors and glasses. To support the demand for the raw materials necessary to make them, Daire Chemicals (Pianezza, Turin) was also activated through the support of historical partners. In collaboration with Arkema, for example, it offers special grades of PVDF Kynar® for the production, through meltblown and electrospinning, of the fabric for disposable surgical and reusable masks. The material guarantees a greater germ and droplet barrier effect, but also superior durability and breathability compared to the classic non-woven fabrics in PP / TPU and TPU. The product profile is completed by the certification for medical use issued by various international bodies. The high chemical resistance and to the various sterilization technologies (in an autoclave, chemical or radiation) makes the PVDF Kynar family the ideal candidate also in the production of components for water treatment, such as pumps, membranes, filters and fittings. For the realization of glasses and visors, Arkema offers Rilsan® Clear G850R, a transparent polymer obtained from renewable sources. Already particularly appreciated in the eyewear sector, especially for the frames, the material, compared to the plastics commonly used for PPE, such as PMMA and PC, guarantees greater transparency, lightness, impact resistance especially at low temperatures, chemical resistance to cleanliness and great resilience especially in the parts near the bar, the most subject to the stresses due to the opening and closing of the glasses. To ensure better comfort in the use of glasses, you can choose Pebax®, Polyether Block Amides, which with hardness starting from 25 shore D allows to obtain a pleasant soft touch effect, for example on the temples. The range dedicated to frames for glasses includes the Pebax Rnew 70R53 obtained from renewable sources and the transparent Pebax Clear 1200. Both grades are also available for soft touch applications on Rilsan Clear G850R.



THERMAL AND / OR ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY: Conductive Compounds of RTP Co. These compounds are obtained by adding one or more conductive additives to meet the requirements of ESD (Electrostatic discharge) or EMI / RFI (Electromagnetic Interference - Radio Frequency Interference) shielding.

The range therefore includes permanent or semi-permanent antistatic, dissipative, conductive and highly conductive properties (able to fully comply with the "Atex" standards), even in pre-colored versions.
Thermal conductive products that express their ability to dissipate heat in W / mK () are also part of the family.

CLUTCH RESISTANCE AND WEAR RESISTANCE: Lubricated compounds of RTP Co. By using lubricating products with structural compounds it is possible to considerably improve the abrasion resistance and the friction coefficient even in materials already endowed with good resistance to wear.
The additives used include ethylene polytetrafluoride (PTFE, Teflon), molybdenum bisulphide (MoS2), perfluoro-polyether (PFPE), powdered graphite, silicone fluids, glass fiber, carbon fiber, aramid fiber.
RTP has recently developed a new series of products called A.P.W.A. (All Polymeric Wear Additive) on a polymeric basis that confer benefits as low friction coefficient (especially for plastic applications on plastic) leaving unchanged the physical-mechanical characteristics of the resin in which they are added.

FLEXIBILITY AND THERMAL RESISTANCE: Rilsan HT (PPA from renewable sources) of ARKEMA. Rilsan HT is the world's first flexible polyphthalamide. Its incredible physical and mechanical characteristics make it an excellent candidate for the "metal replacement" of flexible pipes for applications in the automotive or industrial world in general. The Rilsan HT also has other interesting features such as: high thermal resistance (peaks up to 175 ° C), low density, low moisture absorption (compared to classic PPA), excellent chemical resistance and high temperature thermo-oxidation, exceptional dimensional stability and ease of process. Furthermore, all these polyamides are "biobased" or derived from renewable sources.

RTP has launched a new technology that allows to increase the scratch and friction resistance of polymers.

This technology is called Surface protection Compounds (SPR) and as per presentation it allows to reduce the size of the scratches and increase the hardness according to the pencil test.

Eg. a standard PP with a pressure of 20 Newton has a scratch of about 18 thousandths of an inch (about 0.02 mm)

Modified with SPR, the scratch has no dimensions measurable by a micrometer.

A standard PP has a hardness of 3B on the pencil scale and with SPR it goes to class F.

PMMA, which is already the most scratch-resistant polymer, gets even better.

This technology also protects against aging and allows not to apply protective coatings on the pieces.

On transparent materials it does not affect transparency.

On PP, the SPR still allows for EU10 / 2011 and FDA regulations, on other materials no.

Below is an application example based on PMMA in aesthetic black color for cars.

DAIRE CHEMICALS S.p.A has recently established a business relationship with ARKEMA, the world's first PVDF producer (POLYLUXUROR OF VINYLIDENE), for the distribution throughout the Italian territory of KYNAR® and KYNAR FLEX® products.

The Kynar PVDF homopolymer presents a particularly advantageous set of characteristics such as a remarkable chemical inertness with most of the organic and inorganic acids, oxidizing fluids, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, halogenated alcohols and solvents, as well as good mechanical properties both in tension and flexion, with excellent abrasion resistance, excellent resistance to aging, intrinsic flame resistance and good electrical characteristics.

Furthermore, a large number of Kynar grades are approved for contact with food and water and suitable for medical applications according to the Pharmacopeia Classification VI standard (USP Class 6).

The complete KYNAR® range is as follows:

The HD series indicates products with a whiter appearance.

One of the applications where Kynar Flex® is most used is in the coating of special cables for electrical / electronic use.

#DAIRE CHEMICALS  is attentive to the new requirements of respect for the environment and reduction of CO2 emissions. We could not miss, different materials from renewable sources, biodegradable, biocomposable and deriving from post-consumer recycling that are made by our suppliers, TRINSEO, ARKEMA and RTP.

The range of TRINSEO thermoplastic rubbers is very wide and includes bio-based materials, based on TPE, TPO and TPV respectively with the trade names MEGOL ™ BIO, APIGO ™ BIO and APILON ™ BIO. TRINSEO also produces APINAT ™ biodegradable thermoplastic rubber that degrades for at least 90% as required by the UNI EN 14046: 2003 and ISO 14855: 1999 standards.

ARKEMA produces polyamides 11, based on castor oil, with the trade name RILSAN®, compounds also on a transparent base with the name RILSAN® Clear and on a TPA PEBAX Rnew basis.

RTP produces compounds from renewable sources, using PLA both as an agent that improves the impact performance of polymers such as polyamides or polycarbonates, and as a polymeric matrix which is then reinforced example with glass fiber and becomes a green alternative to products such as PBT, glass reinforced PP. RTP also produces compounds deriving from recycled and post-consumption materials based on PA 6, PA66, PET, PC

The CCP group, founded in 1949 for over 60 years, is not only the 2nd largest petrochemical group in Taiwan, but is also considered one of the largest suppliers of chemicals worldwide.

The performance of new sporting goods and small appliances has a common denominator: technopolymers specialized to provide added value to the product.

"One of the first important applications developed for the sports world has been in the underwater sector, - remembers Stefano Urbinati, product development manager at Daire Chemicals - where we specifically formulated a recipe for a thermoplastic elastomer able to chemically adhere to polypropylene. This allowed the adhesion of the blade of a fin on the shoe, replacing the vulcanized tires previously used. It was the early 90s and thanks to our recipe, we came into contact with API (today Trinseo), with which we followed the underwater market, located mainly in the area around Genoa. The resins of DIC, based on PPS, are able to withstand temperatures over 200 ° C in continuous, are characterized by intrinsic self-extinguishing, an efficient dimensional stability, very high mechanical characteristics and a chemical resistance to a wide spectrum of substances . Gharda's G-PAEK (PEK), with a glass transition temperature of 152 ° C, a melt temperature of 352 ° C and a continuous use temperature of 280 ° C, provide higher temperature performance than PEEK , maintaining and often improving the physical, mechanical and chemical resistance characteristics. Within its range of compounds, RTP has developed some PPs capable of efficiently replacing other more expensive materials. The very long fiber polypropylene compounds (VLFPP) have an advantageous performance / price ratio and a lower specific weight, thus providing an interesting alternative to loaded compounds such as glass fiber reinforced nylon 6 and 6/6. In addition, the PP retains its characteristics unaltered even in the presence of a high moisture content (50%) and its low permeability provides a chemical resistance higher than that of PA. Last but not least, VLFPP can be processed at lower temperatures and pressures than glass-filled nylon, do not require drying and have shorter cycle times: which translates into energy savings and production costs. Another class of PP concerns the development of mass colored solutions. RTP has developed a series of UV stabilized PPs capable of achieving 100% color matching.

Dedicated to applications for car interiors, such as headrest consoles, console and central area, interior handles and step plates, they have reduced deformation, low gloss (2-3), resistance to scratches, mechanical strength and combine structural properties and chromatic harmony . For exteriors, RTP offers a range of black VLFPP usable for components that require a slightly rough finish combined with structure, aesthetics and UV resistance. These materials with low deformation eliminate the need to paint the pieces and have a lower weight than the polyamides loaded with glass fiber.
