PRODUCT / ACTIVITIES

Among the products of the main brands that Daire represents, Trinseo-division API SpA offers thermoplastic rubbers based on TPE-MEGOL, TPV TIVILON, TPU APILON 52. Asahi Kasei is instead a Japanese manufacturer of POM OMO TENAC and POM COPO TENAC-C (they are also available the TENAC Z grades, with low formaldehyde emission and high mechanical performances, such as TENAC C HC). Asahi, then, is an integrated producer of PA 66 under the Leona brand. Another represented company is Arkema, an integrated manufacturer of long chain polyamides based on PA11 RILSAN, PA12 RILSAMID, elastomerized PEBAX and transparent RILSAN CLEAR. Chang Chun Plastics is instead an integrated manufacturer of PBTs with a wide range of grades, while Domo is an integrated manufacturer of PA 6, with varying degrees specific to the automotive world. Materials for high performance

Daire Chemicals presents several innovations in engineering polymers able to satisfy metal replacement and high thermal resistance requirements. ASAHI KASEI produces LEONA 90G®, a PA 66 semi aromatic with fiber glass grades (up to 60%) with high flexural modules and a linear thermal expansion coefficient such as steel and iron. The LEONA 90G® is aesthetic even with high percentages of glass. RTP Company produces long-fiberglass and carbon-fiber reinforced structural compounds. Products with long glass fiber are an excellent compromise between stiffness and resilience, those carbon fiber are suitable for high-mod performance. PP long-loaded PP can also be a valid alternative to PA 6-PA66 glass fiber, especially for applications where high operating temperatures are not required. The PP FVL guarantee, similar withdrawals, no absorption of humidity, lower specific weights, mechanical equal and a greater resistance to shocks. The RTP long glass fiber compounds on PA 66 base, on the other hand, guarantee high modules, high resilience and fatigue resistance. RTP also has a range of high temperature products with alternative solutions also to PEI. FLEXIBILITY AND THERMAL RESISTANCE: Rilsan HT (PPA from renewable sources) of ARKEMA. Rilsan HT is the world's first flexible polyphthalamide. Its incredible physical and mechanical characteristics make it an excellent candidate for the "metal replacement" of flexible pipes for applications in the automotive or industrial world in general. The Rilsan HT also has other interesting features such as: high thermal resistance (peaks up to 175 ° C), low density, low moisture absorption (compared to classic PPA), excellent chemical resistance and high temperature thermo-oxidation, exceptional dimensional stability and ease of process. RTP Compounds with long glass fiber

RTP Company, American company leader in the world of technical compound, has within its wide range of products also the structural thermoplastic resins, reinforced with long glass fiber.

DAIRE CHEMICALS DISTRIBUTES KYKAR PVDF FROM ARKEMA

 

DAIRE CHEMICALS S.p.A has recently established a business relationship with ARKEMA, the world's first PVDF producer (POLYLUXUROR OF VINYLIDENE), for the distribution throughout the Italian territory of KYNAR® and KYNAR FLEX® products.

The Kynar PVDF homopolymer presents a particularly advantageous set of characteristics such as a remarkable chemical inertness with most of the organic and inorganic acids, oxidizing fluids, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, halogenated alcohols and solvents, as well as good mechanical properties both in tension and flexion, with excellent abrasion resistance, excellent resistance to aging, intrinsic flame resistance and good electrical characteristics.

Furthermore, a large number of Kynar grades are approved for contact with food and water and suitable for medical applications according to the Pharmacopeia Classification VI standard (USP Class 6).

The performance of new sporting goods and small appliances has a common denominator: technopolymers specialized to provide added value to the product.

IN THE HOUSE AND OUTDOORS

Throughout its history, Daire Chemicals has developed several applications for the sports and home appliances sectors. Although these are very different sectors, both have demanding and specialized requests, which must be met with raw materials capable of responding effectively and specifically efficiently. With the aim of providing the customer with the most suitable material for his needs, Daire Chemicals offers a wide range of materials, supporting their choice with their expertise and the experience gained in 36 years of activity.

SAMPLES IN ALL FIELDS

"One of the first important applications developed for the sports world has been in the underwater sector, - remembers Stefano Urbinati, product development manager at Daire Chemicals - where we specifically formulated a recipe for a thermoplastic elastomer able to chemically adhere to polypropylene. This allowed the adhesion of the blade of a fin on the shoe, replacing the vulcanized tires previously used. It was the early 90s and thanks to our recipe, we came into contact with API (today Trinseo), with which we followed the underwater market, located mainly in the area around Genoa. Today, unfortunately, that world has very delocalized production, but has remained in our DNA accumulated experience in this area that we have been able to transfer to other sectors. Currently, we have an interesting range of products in distribution that allows us to effectively follow the sporting goods market. The main products used are the soft materials of Trinseo, with tires on TPE-S Megol, TPU Apilon 52 used for example for grips of ski poles, fins, masks and diving equipment, rods and nose pads for sports glasses, soles for sport shoes. As for the tires, we can then increase the properties of resistance to cold, lightness and mechanical properties with the Tema - Pebax by Arkema. It is a product used in the soles of sports shoes but is also used in the padding of bicycle saddles. Arkema also produces transparent amorphous polyamides under the Rilsan Clear brand, used in the production of frames and lenses for sports glasses and ski goggles. This regards what requires softness, lightness and impact resistance. The new demands in the sports field, however, also concern rigid, super-performing and lightweight materials for the metal replacement of structural parts in components for bikes, skis, and snowboards. We are therefore able to meet these requirements with the carbon-fiber-reinforced compounds, long and lubricated glass fibers of RTP Company. We are talking, for example, about ski bindings, parts of bicycle frames, brake levers and much more. Then we have the polycarbonate and PC ABS products of Samyang for the production of ski helmets, snowboards, paragliders, etc., with impact resistance performance superior to the classic ABS helmets. It should not be forgotten, then, that the sports world also means "fashion": to those who require special effects, such as metallic, fluorescent, glow in the dark colors, we are able to respond with the 'special effect' compounds of the RTP ".

APPLIANCES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE

"Applications for the small household appliances sector - continues Urbinati - may require very different raw materials depending on whether they are intended for external or internal components. The bodywork of a coffee machine, for example, must be beautiful, made with aesthetic materials, with colors that attract the customer. Therefore we suggest the use of alloys based on ABS, PC-ABS, or with metal or chrome effect. If there are transparent parts in the kitchen appliance, designed to show the level of the water or the contained food, you are faced with two requirements: firstly, the plastic must be suitable for contact with food and, in certain applications must also be free of bisphenols. In this case, we use Arkema's Rilsan Clear products approved for contact with food and without bisegolo. On the other hand, as regards the interior of the appliance, plastic is called upon to meet various challenges. The main concerns the mechanical properties of stiffness and resilience, thermal performance with peak temperatures that can reach even 100 ° C, chemical properties for contact with food (such as coffee that is very aggressive), organoleptic, not to affect negatively on the taste of the food, therefore it is necessary to choose materials as "pure" as possible. THE 'BEAUTIFUL' OF SAVINGS

"The aesthetic aspect - Urbinati continues - is one of the key factors for the automotive sector. To reduce the costs related to finishing operations, eliminate the painting phase from the production process and avoid the emission of substances harmful to the environment, the materials that give the injection-molded parts a metallic effect are increasingly sought. We offer polymers based on polycarbonate, ABS or PC / ABS, used to make ring nuts, frames, parts for the dashboard or for the flying area, but also to produce external components ".

SILENCE: YOU TRAVEL

"As for the components in the dashboard of the car or heavy vehicles, RTP has developed very special materials, able to reduce the so-called 'squeak', or those annoying noises caused by the friction between the various parts in plastic and not . These polymers - Urbinati points out - are ready to use for injection molding and are filled with fillers that prevent the emission of these creaks. Moreover, they are materials endowed with an effective mechanical resistance, of dimensional stability and, since they are usually based on ABS, they also provide notable aesthetic results: an aspect that is anything but secondary when it comes to components for car interiors ".

THE MOST 'WARM'

"The engines of the latest car models are increasingly compact and powerful. This - underlines Urbinati - means for producers the need to find materials able to withstand ever higher temperatures, obviously without neglecting the need to contain the weight of the components. In response to these requests we offer a series of high performance technopolymers. The resins of DIC, based on PPS, are able to withstand temperatures over 200 ° C in continuous, are characterized by intrinsic self-extinguishing, an efficient dimensional stability, very high mechanical characteristics and a chemical resistance to a wide spectrum of substances . Gharda's G-PAEK (PEK), with a glass transition temperature of 152 ° C, a melt temperature of 352 ° C and a continuous use temperature of 280 ° C, provide higher temperature performance than PEEK , maintaining and often improving the physical, mechanical and chemical resistance characteristics. Among the products we distribute, we also find materials such as the lubricated compounds of RTP which combine thermal resistance with resistance to wear and friction. These materials can be used to make gears, levers, components subject to rubbing, even for areas near the engine or where the temperature becomes higher ".

ANTIETY RECIPES

"When it is necessary to provide the pieces with greater ability to withstand atmospheric agents, UV rays without yellowing or showing signs of aging, specific formulations can be used. RTP has developed a series of poles

propylenes reinforced with long glass fibers or additivated with UV stabilizers that can be used as an alternative to polyamides. In addition to ensuring effective performance in terms of resistance to aging, these materials also provide a specific weight reduction. In fact, compared to the PA, their specific weight is about 10% lower, and they also have a slightly lower cost.

These classes of PP loaded with long glass fibers - concludes Stefano Urbinati - have been approved as resistant to aging according to American standards, being RTP a US company, but they are already in phase of harmonization with Italian and European regulations ".

HIGH SPECIALIZATION PP

Within its range of compounds, RTP has developed some PPs capable of efficiently replacing other more expensive materials. The very long fiber polypropylene compounds (VLFPP) have an advantageous performance / price ratio and a lower specific weight, thus providing an interesting alternative to loaded compounds such as glass fiber reinforced nylon 6 and 6/6. In addition, the PP retains its characteristics unaltered even in the presence of a high moisture content (50%) and its low permeability provides a chemical resistance higher than that of PA. Last but not least, VLFPP can be processed at lower temperatures and pressures than glass-filled nylon, do not require drying and have shorter cycle times: which translates into energy savings and production costs. Another class of PP concerns the development of mass colored solutions. RTP has developed a series of UV stabilized PPs capable of achieving 100% color matching.

Dedicated to applications for car interiors, such as headrest consoles, console and central area, interior handles and step plates, they have reduced deformation, low gloss (2-3), resistance to scratches, mechanical strength and combine structural properties and chromatic harmony . For exteriors, RTP offers a range of black VLFPP usable for components that require a slightly rough finish combined with structure, aesthetics and UV resistance. These materials with low deformation eliminate the need to paint the pieces and have a lower weight than the polyamides loaded with glass fiber. They can be used to make luggage racks, mirror housings, footpegs and exterior handles.

PA 66 LEONA™14G - ASAHI KASEI

PBT - CHANG CHUN PLASTICS
